I featured Fixers here on TBW in February when they released their rather amazing debut single Iron Deer Dream on Young & Lost, but this week they released their debut four-track EP Here Comes 2001 So Let’s All Head For The Sun on Mercury and it’s a pop gem.
They’ve embraced their pop sensibilities more than I was imagining, but doesn’t stop it from being a great summer pop record – in fact it suits the sunshine currently beaming through my windows rather well. Another Lost Apache opens the record with some heavily reverbed harmonies before the song breaks into a modern take on surf-pop. Crystals is the first single from the record and is even getting some mainstream Radio 1 airplay recently – and its understandable why – it’s frantic energy and upbeat rhythm has summer anthem written all over it.
Uriel was more of what I was expecting from the record, with uplifting melodies colliding into crescendos and beautiful harmonies and a lot of play on the sound desk, and remains my favourite, but if you want a summer pop record then look no further.
