We first came across Gabrielle Aplin when she teamed up with Walrus favourite Bastille for a pretty wonderful re-envisioning of Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams (video below). But that was more her lending her vocal talents to a song in the industrial electro-pop style that is very much form the Bastille stable.
In the last couple of years, Miss Aplin has put out a self-released EP that managed a top ten spot on iTunes and has since found herself with a major label deal. Impressive stuff, but it wasn’t until I was lucky enough to catch her at the iTunes Festival that I was truly sold. Even on such a big stage (the Roundhouse has a massive stage even if you’ve got your whole band up there with you), she managed to look and feel at home and stun the crowd – all the more impressive when half of them were just waiting for Emeli Sandé…
The whole set rushed by, whether Aplin was sat at the piano or standing, casting a solitary silhouette with her guitar, but Please Don’t Say You Love Me was certainly a highlight, and lucky enough it’s her next single and we’ve got the video for it below then!
