One of the artists that really caught my attention last year was Keiya. The saxophonist turned R&B singer has shared with the world (at least, the Internet) her debut EP, which was truly amazing. We’ve been listenning a lot of talented R&B artists in recent years, but Keiya definetely stands out from the crowd. The production work on her songs is truly refreshing and it sits itself apart from other rising queens such as Kelela and FKA Twigs, although Keiya is much closer to the roots and sligthly less elaborated (a definitely case when less is more).
A few ago, she released “Forgotten” that opens up with a simple synth-melody before getting dreamy, lushy and bouncy with that flawless bass as soon as we get to the chorus. Everything done in a subtle way as it is Keiya’s trademark. This incredibly sumptuous track was released ahead of a forthcoming project, so does that mean that we’ll be able to listen to her first album pretty soon? In the meantime, let’s just play “Forever” again and again.
