My workload is getting rather excessive here at uni at the moment with me having to write an 8000 word essay on Soviet Espionage (but some people like writing sh*tload), making my music taste a lttle slower than normal as I can’t go out as much as I would like to. Anyway, enough of my problems and onto the music for this week.
Kate Nash reminds me a little of Lily Allen and a little of Alex Shepard, which should make her one of my favourite artists over the coming months as she releases some more stuff.
Lady & Bird is apparently not a new tune at all, and I think this song is a cover of Velvet Underground, but she has turned it into a beautiful soft song to lay back to in the winter months – and my God it is cold here at the moment even if we don’t have much snow yet.
Zero 7 have always made great laid back tunes and this remix by Hot Chip just updates one of my favourite songs with some great electronic sounds to make it sound fresh again.
This Arthur Russell track is the one from the T-Mobile advert (the one with the people dragging buildings down a street) which I have been looking for for a while. It is minimalist perfection and the bongos are always a bonus. Why is it I get into artists 15 years after they died? He seems to have been a true talent on the cello.
Jack Penate is someone who I’m behind the world in picking up, but it looks like 2007 will be a good year for him, with his odd dress sense but catchy as F*ck songs. I’m not completely down – this song is my pick-me-up
