The Blue Walrus

Snazzy Vol.6 – Beagley, Blonde Redhead, Pigeon Detectives, Dead Disco, Young Love

Finally finished and handed in the bloody essay yesterday – wahoo! This means I can make up for the neglect of the walrus with a decent amount of updates over the coming few days starting with the latest Snazzy Compilations. That would be Volume 6.

I was sent a few Beagley songs last week and they seem to have some very good potential, but need a little better production. However this cover just caught my attention, and has been spinning on my main playlist for a few days and I have to say I love it. Bloc Party done in an acoustic almost twee style – trust me it works.

Blonde Redhead, one of my favourite bands over the last couple of years, have a new album out and this is a great little taster. I think 23 is their most accessible album yet, so hopefully they’ll be finding some more fans this year.

The Pigeon Detectives recently played here at Edinburgh, and as a great up and coming band that is not particularly common. Glasgow is a bit cooler I suppose, but although I couldn’t make it, my flatmate did and loved the evening.

This Dead Disco remix by Metronomy has electro goodness all over it. The staccato chopped vocals, the synth line, the build up. An example of a good song becoming great with a remix.

Young Love are another band which should be having a pretty good 2007 if what I’ve heard from them so far is anything to go by, danceable indie have some new pretenders to the throne.
