Next Monday sees the launch of the beautifully elegant “Being a grow-up sure is complicated” by Amycanbe. They are a four piece band hailing from Ravenna in Northern Italy, with Francesca Amati having notable vocal similarities to Bjork and a sound that I am not the only one having a hard time pigeon-holing. The rhythm sounds decidedly Italian, but they produce songs that are stunning journeys of indie folk pop with little twinges of minimalistic electronica to the extent that a couple of songs would work perfectly as some new acoustic Portishead material.
Here is a couple of my favourite tracks from the album to get a feel for what Amycanbe can offer, but the album works so well as a whole that only having two tracks doesn’t do them justice. Catch them live in London this week – the launch party is on Monday at 12 Bar on Denmark Street, London.
