The Blue Walrus

BPA Competition

BPA

If you have been reading TBW for a while, then you would have picked up how much I’m enjoying what has been coming out of the Brighton Port Authority (BPA) (Myspace) stables recently (since October last year, with the Database remix of Toe Jam). The originals are always good, and some of the remixes have been amazing, and thanks to the kind folk at BigMethod we have some BPA CDs to give away.

If you want a copy, then either email (competitions@thebluewalrus.com) or post in the comments with what you think the letters BPA could/should stand for. Our favourite 5 will get copies in the post .

If you haven’t been following them for the past few months, I thought now would be a good time to fill you in. They are a collective containing a whole raft of great artists including Norman Cook, Jamie T, Dizzee Rascal, Emmy The Great, Jack Penate, and Martha Wainwright. Basically a whole host of my favourites together under one authority.

We’ll start off with a few videos of the BPA tracks in their original glory:

…and then some awesome remixes:

The BPA – Toe Jam (Database Remix)
The BPA – He’s Frank (Don Diablo Remix)
The BPA – He’s Frank (Layo and Bushwacker Remix)
The BPA – He’s Frank (Superfrank Remix)
The BPA – He’s Frank (The Twelves Remix)

…and if all this isn’t enough you can also listen to the BPA mixtape (mixed by Charlie Stains)

To finish off, there is even a chance for writing and recording some of your own lyrics for a song from one of the BPA’s lost mixtapes in the words of Mr Cook himself:

“COME ONE COME ALL! The infamous BPA lost tapes that were recently found in a warehouse near Brighton have once again thrown up another classic record… well at least half of one! While running through the tapes during a recent remastering session in London, a forgotten tune was discovered. It’s blurry, but there are some memories of this track once having a vocal and sounding brilliant… problem being no one associated with the BPA can remember who it was singing or how it went!

This is where you come in. Join the ranks of David Byrne, Iggy Pop, Martha Wainwright, Jamie T and Dizzee Rascal. Write and record lyrics to the uncovered backing track yourself. Who knows, maybe the spirit of the original song will channel through you, maybe you’ll write a better song, whatever way it turns out, enjoy yourself…The BPA always did!”

Head on over to the official contest site and make sure to get your lyrical goodness in by March 31st
