Sky Larkin – Kaleide

Only a year after the release of their debut, The Golden Spike, Sky Larkin are back with the release of Kaleide on Wichita. They have kept with John Goodmanson as their producer and the sound of the whole record resembles that of their debut, and yet does show progression – it’s tighter, heavier, and has got more energy that what came before it.

Still Windmills opens the album and is a demonstration by the band is trying to achieve with Katie Harkin’s vocals rising above the rumble and drawing you ins whilst the drums pound and hammer their way into your soul. It continues from there with little let up in the first half.

Even with this movement to a heavier sound though, Sky Larkin haven’t forgotten how to created perfectly penned indie-pop that will get feet tapping, with ATM and Smarts (SHH Version) showing off those talents oh so well. And then you have my favourite on the record, Anjelica Huston (that’s Morticia from the Addams family to you and me) which leads off with an organ alongside those familiar thumping drums and Katie’s vocals both haunting and building throughout.
