You might have come across Cate Le Bon (MySpace) before, with her being guest vocalist on Neon Neon’s I Lust You and spending a year touring with them – but a Toadcast a few weeks ago was the first time I appreciated her in her own right.

Her sultry Welsh accented voice has found its way out the deepest darkest welsh countryside, whilst the folk-psychedelic sounds she sculpts around it will begin to peel away those first impressions of innocence. You can see how her previous attempt at making a record ended in a cacophony of every instrument she had to hand, as there is still plenty of musical exploration her – but this time the simple melodies are allowed to shine through, with each track finding a new way to engage the listener.
