On Hot New Trash, FOE (aka Hannah Clark) spits vitriol over the media’s obsession with “the next big thing” that is foisted upon the ever adoring public dumbed down by the internal marketing machines of integrated exploitative media conglomerates. It’s clear to say that she has a message with which to provoke then.
Musically, the four tracks open with the awkward Ape Song that allows the attitude to bubble beneath an accordion wrapped, as is the whole EP, in Entrepreneur’s twisted electronic production. Tyrant Song is a more distorted, beat led affair for sweat walled clubs with a chorus of “are you ready for the next big thing, are you ready for a clown in a G-string”, where I doubt I’m the only one miss-hearing clown for cunt.
Merry Go Down closes the EP with something musically a little different and little more pop-influenced with electric organ led bit of soul, but she still refusing to let up on the examples of celebrity culture. No soft corners, this an electronic grunge EP with a message.
