Bands to watch: BASTILLE

Bastille - FlawsSouth London’s Dan Smith has spent a good part of the last year writing and recording under the moniker BASTILLE (Facebook/Twitter), and that is about all I can find on the man to be perfectly honest. I first picked him up after Ollie wrote him up on My Band’s Better Than Your Band in January – but now the lovely girls from Young & Lost Club are giving him a proper release with a 7″.

Single FLAWS demonstrates BASTILLE’s ability to envelop his beautiful soaring vocals in simple electronic beeps and beats to create something damn close to a perfect pop song in my book. Then the B-Side of Icarus takes a slightly different more fragile tone, with the same beautiful vocals and danceable rhythms, but this time wrapped in little more that a piano and soft string movements.
