Dublin-based teenagers Little Green Cars have their debut single, The John Wayne, coming out on the ever wonderful Young & Lost Club on the 25th July, and it’s a impressive statement of intent. It’s a lovesong about failing to win the affections of an American teen by being refused entry to a nightclub – something that left singer/guitarist Stevie Appleby to go home and record the song using pots and pans instead of drums. Old school.
The sound is a lo-fi the Mamas and the Papas, with heartfelt harmonies and embracing simple pop-rock and on occasion gospel blues melodies giving absolutely no credence to what current fashions have determined as cool. A sound they like for themselves, and with the help the production skills of David Kosten (The Guillemots and Bat for Lashes) a sound for this summer.
If you want a special night – catch them supporting Bastille at The Underbelly (Hoxton) on 6th July
