The Blue Walrus

Introducing: The Loud

The Loud

Make way for The Loud (Bandcamp/Facebook), a well-styled scouse garage band who have broke away from the generic, amateur sounds of many Liverpool bands that have dampened the mood of the local music scene for a while now. Along with The Thespians, The Loud are another North West band that are sure to have nationwide success. With trudging, sexy guitars, driving bass lines and slack vocals The Loud are a band brimming with confidence. A Little Taste of Home displays an intelligent evaluation of social malaise with lazy vocals and strong, vibrant guitars. This isn’t a band that are going to sit back and let things sail away, their music grabs you by the head, swings you around a few times and sits you back down with a clatter in a dizzy, guitar fuelled stupor.

I saw these guys live a few weeks ago in what can’t be described as a stage; it was more a sparsely filled function room with disco lights and a crowd which held an abundance of drunk, shirtless older men proudly displaying their wisps of grey nipple hair for all to see. The point is that even in such an AWFUL venue, they managed to entertain a crowd that wasn’t exactly normal gig material.

Amy’s Gonna Get You has bluesy, trudging guitar plus screaming vocals. At times, I feel that they sound like an early Kings of Leon but with more regional accents and less beard. They have the wit and dynamics of the Arctic Monkeys whilst remaining true to their own sound. If there’s going to be a band that sparks the resurrection of good music in Liverpool, The Loud are the ones at the helm.
