This Many Boyfriends – Starling

Who’s up for some jangly indie-pop? Such a thing is great in moderation, but can quickly become stale. However, the new single from This Many Boyfriends is the kind of song I can’t see myself getting sick of… well, ever. It’s getting released on Monday, and is out in a rather intriguing physical format, as well: Starling is being released as a fanzine, of all things! Ha, take that, all you bands who simply put out CDs for your singles. Most people buy downloads these days anyway, unless some effort is really put in with the physical release – but it helps that the song is a cracker. (I may have already hinted at this.) It’s about ‘ornithology and love’, and could be addressed to, er, this many girlfriends. Or maybe even one in particular. Yeah, that works better. This song has immediately memorable lyrics (‘I think you have the soul of a starling … We will live together for a long time’); it also has a riff (!), not to mention some insanely catchy ‘ba-ba-ba’ backing vocals being thrown into the mix towards the end. It ticks THIS many boxes. (That’s a lot.) Just Saying proves that the art of the great b-side isn’t dead yet, too. Check them both out below, and add some sunshine to your day.
