Social media lets the word spread about new bands and artists making waves from those watching them kill it at a live show in SXSW to those of us left in our green and pleasant land and sat in front of laptops at unsociable hours. Haim (facebook/twitter), three sisters from Los Angeles, blew everyone away in their performance last night, as my feed lit up with universal praise.
If their live show lives up to the ingenuity and energy of their recorded demos then they are well deserving of the hype. The grew up travelling the country in a Dodge Caravan and playing covers with their parents on drums and guitar, but now they have songs and a sound all of their own. Their tunes embrace the music of the last thirty years, from folk to R&B, and roll it into something new and different, grand like the ppop-ballads of the 80s, but with a hand for percussion and delicate production that is all the more modern.
