The Ghosts (soundcloud/twitter) are a band with a fine sense of irony: they’re calling their debut album The End, but there is a clear sense that things are just beginning for them. Former Ou Est Le Swimming Pool man Alex Starling has teamed up with drummer Ian Palmer and already released one single; back in January, Enough Time, which is streaming here, was released, and the duo aren’t hanging around, for here comes another single. Fans of Starling’s old band – I still play The Golden Years every so often myself – will enjoy his new material, which has a little in common with what’s gone before. For one thing, the duo’s sense of melody is striking, and this is what makes Ghosts so immediate and repeatable.
The video is below, the single is out on April 9th, and the album arrives the following week. Early reports suggest that it’s rather good, so I’m going in with high expectations. You should be excited about this band, because they do what they do very well indeed. Electro-pop genius was all over Ou Est Le Swimming Pool’s material, and The Ghosts look to be going much the same way. They’re two for two on their singles, and they’re just getting warmed up.
