A Place to Bury Strangers – You Are the One

Don’t look down. The cover art for Worship, the eagerly-awaited third album from New York-based noise-rockers A Place to Bury Strangers (Twitter/Facebook) won’t sit too well with vertigo sufferers, and it could indeed be the one on which they scale even greater heights. Following on from February’s Onwards to the Wall EP, which acted as a great primer for further new material, LP3 sees the light of day on June 11th. There will be no impatience involved, though; not for a while yet, as to tide fans over, the band have released the rather ominous-sounding – I mean, even more ominous-sounding than usual You Are the One, which relies on a menacing bassline and some gentle electronic drums, as well as the spine-tinglingly deep vocals of Oliver Ackermann (which are treated slightly to heighten the sense of unease), for its first two minutes, before searing guitars enter and the song shifts up a gear for its second half, eventually coming to a literal screeching halt as jet-engine-like guitars and feedback combine to produce a startling climax. Appearing towards the beginning of the new record, as its second track, You Are the One hints at a new direction for the band, and is an indication that their new record could be their best yet.
