It’s always surprising when one stumbles upon a great band out of nowhere, but in the case of Brooklynites Carousel [Website/Facebook] – again with the Brooklynites! They seem to be responsible for some of the best music going these days – the surprise has more to do with the fact that they haven’t been signed yet. They put an EP out last year (26 Allston, which is free!), and are following it up with Sounds of Summer, which is out soon, and would seem to be the most perfectly-titled release we’ve come across all year, if its lead track, the shimmering synth-pop delight that is Let’s Go Home, is anything to go by. Any fans of Tubelord’s most recent album r o m a n c e will find a lot to like in this song’s simple and direct approach to melodic songwriting. Its impressively-layered sound highlights the band’s ability to do a lot with very little; its minimalistic sound means that it’s stripped down to its purest form; that of the perfect pop song. This band are definitely going places, so strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.
