Coastal Cities – Relief

In my opinion, at least, it’s appropriate that Coastal Cities [Twitter/Facebook] have named their new song Relief. While I will freely admit to being late to the party, I was introduced to them a few weeks back (hat tip to Neon Gold for flagging the lead track off the Think Tank EP, released toward the tail end of last year). More appropriately, I stumbled upon them, so I’m quite happy to be writing words on the new song today. It’s out on July 30th on Once Upon A Time Records, and proves that the band are far more than just a flash in the pan. They’re doing this whole ‘music’ thing as a sort of side-project, as they’re all still in college, but they really should just take it up full-time – the new song, written as a rallying cry to young people unable to break out and start achieving their dreams, is a jerky indie-dance delight that is more than just a cut above the rest of those bands influenced by early Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand. It’s hardly derivative enough to make one think we’ve gone back to 2005; far from it. Instead, it is a song in tune with the times that marks Coastal Cities out as a going concern. I missed out on them the first time around; luckily, you won’t have to do the same. Get on this.
