Tall Ships – Gallop

The wait is just going to be unbearable, but it was recently announced that Everything Touching, the debut album from Falmouth’s Tall Ships [Twitter/Facebook] (who are hot property this year and could have a serious impact), will be released on the 8th of October. (You can view the album teaser below, should you be so inclined.) Yesterday, a new song – the first hint of new material from the group since the album’s lead single and opening track T=0 – was debuted, and it is to be the second single. Gallop, to use the Ronseal analogy, does exactly what it says on the tin, mixing post-rock dynamics and an intensely rhythmic feel to great effect, as the band wonder about human failings and present them through the eyes of three 20-somethings trying to figure themselves out. They haven’t quite gotten there yet – the lyrics are as contemplative as we’ve come to expect from them – but they’ve set these musings to a rousing rock soundtrack that’ll have the listener captivated in no time at all. The single’s due for release in September, and we can expect the album soon after; one of the best debut albums of the year? We’re calling it.
