The Blue Walrus

Introducing: The Acetates

The Acetates - Hey Sister

In the case of this band it was love at first listen, The Acetates (Facebook) are Simon Elbaum and Oren Klein, a Los Angeles based duo who bring a charming touch to American folk revival.

To date the band currently only have two single to their name, so they are fresh meat to the music domain. Their début single Hey Sister is a sunny side up serving of acoustic folk mellow gold. While their recently released follow up Self Portrait is a delightful balance of twangy guitar, harmonica and steady strumming percussion. Their vocals are simple and stripped back but the bands easy and relaxed vibe is as warm as the Californian sun.

What’s unique about The Acetates is that they forgo all traditional and technical method of recording, taking on a the ethos of a self produced and self distributed DIY approach of making music. A daring but refreshing move that has insured total freedom and creative control over their sound and a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship of music.

You can have a listen for yourself via their Bandcamp page where Hey Sister is available as a free download.
