Things are certainly looking up for this duo. Having released their debut EP on Tri Angle Records, You Know You Like It, back in June, Aluna Francis and George Reid (also known as AlunaGeorge [Twitter/Facebook]) have been courting major-label interest for a few months, and have inked a deal with Island Records. They’re moving up in the world, and the lead single from their debut album (due next year) finds them taking great strides forward. Out on October 8th, Your Drums, Your Love is, in a word, magnificent, taking the duo’s sound in a sweeter, more immediate direction, taking influence from R&B and pure pop (with just a dash of oddness thrown in for good measure) as Francis delivers a punishing blow to an ex-lover; the song’s anthemic chorus is wonderful (‘I’ve been treading water for your love, and whether I sink or swim, it’s you I’m thinking of’) and shows that the band’s introduction to the world wasn’t a mere flash in the pan. AlunaGeorge are the real deal, and this hook-laden track would probably be a #1 single in a different world. It sure as hell deserves to be in this one.
