It’s that time of year once again when a team of some of the finest bloggers of this land come together to nominate a few bands and artists that we think could and should become successes next year. Every blogger gets to nominate five of their favourite up-and-coming acts, and then put together by Robin of Breaking More Waves, and Andy of Von Pip Musical Express into the list you see below.  There were 170 acts in total nominated by the 49 bloggers, showing the breadth of opinion across the group, and then the 15 with the most votes become the nominations – and the winners will be announced on January 2nd.

We feel this gives a good independent alternative to the BBC’s own Sound of 2013 poll, and in fact compliments it in many ways.

Laura Mvula – Jazz and soul that steps away from the mainstream

 – Cool Scandinavian electro-pop

Palma Violets – Ferocious and energetic rock

Pins – Ultra-hip all girl indie from Manchester

Randolph’s Leap – Brass-infused folk from Glasgow

Rhye – Soothing and blissed-out pop

Savages – Female-fronted post-punk with some serious swagger

Seasfire – Electronics and rock’n’roll from Bristol

The Neighbourhood – Atmospheric pop from the sun-drenched California
Tom Odell – Piano-led pop ballads

This list contains two of my five picks – can you guess which ones? All the Walrus writers will be picking their top five for next year in the coming few days, so keep your eyes peeled…
