The Family Rain – Carnival

They say you can choose your friends but not your family so make the best of what you got. A saying The Family Rain (Facebook/Twitter) has taken to heart. They also say the family that plays together stays together, well something like that anyway. We raved on about this band on The Blue Walrus back in October last year when we introduced you to the snarly guitar hooks of their début single Trust Me I’m A Genius. After playing a couple of festival and gig dates the musical band of brothers are back with a full calendar of new tour dates and a killer new single to boasts.

Occupying themselves in their parent basement, the band wrote and recorded their new single Carnival as a demo last year but it is now finally getting its official release on the 18th March. The muscular gruff of Trust Me I’m A Genius has been energized on this single, revealing a more buoyant and fun jaunty jamboree of sound. This track is buzzing with fragmented fuzz and gritty guitar hooks but its jagged edge is kept fun with its invigorated tempo. Drop a listen if you like the fresh offbeat blues sounds of Cold War Kids.

Fans waiting for a full album release need not wait too long as they headed in to the recording studio this month with legendary producer Jim Abbiss. Abbiss most notably produced The Arctic Monkeys Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not and Ladytron’s Witching Hour.

In between writing and recording their debut the band are also gearing up for their first headline show on the 18th March at The Sebright Arms in London (see you at the front!) as well as support slots for Willy Moon and The Courteeners.

Carnival is available now as a free download from the bands shiny new official website.
