The Blue Walrus

Introducing: Sequin

Sequin - Penelope

Last week, my music player was stuck on repeat whenever it played a number of songs by Ana Miró, who goes by the stage name of Sequin.

The first track I remember hearing was “Flamingo” in a live performance captured by the nice people at Bodyspace for their online vidéothèque. Unfortunately I didn’t pay enough attention at the time, stupid me. However, down to what really matters, “Flamingo” is a great song and  a good example of the quite-and-sweet electro-pop that Sequin makes.

Now that I’ve heard this live performance again, I think that another thing that can be said about her music is the simplistic nature of it. I belive that Moullinex, who produced her debut album, might have noticed it as well and tried to make the best of it because that’s what those minimalistic synth bits, that lead the way in “Naive”, seem to suggest.

The album, titled Penelope, was released by Lovers and Lollipops in April and is highly recommended for fans of acts such as Py or Jessy Lanza (Ana loves her, I think!).
