Last night Zane Lowe premièred a new track from Walrus favourites Alt-J in the form of Hunger of the Pine.
I’ll admit that I was somewhat nervous about hearing new material from the band, with expectations set sky high after their fantastic Mercury Prize-winning debut An Awesome Wave back in 2012. And the release could have been all the more difficult after bassist Gwil Sainsbury left the band.
However, the brooding, layered Hunger of the Pine does not disappoint, and shows the band once again taut with energy, and with a playful eye to annoy the music snobs with a Miley Cyrus sample.
Alt-J’s new album, This Is All Yours, will be released in the UK on 22 September via Infectious Music.
