The Blue Walrus

Remixed and reworked: Gengahr, Atticus, Prides, Monogram, Laura Doggett

Gengahr

Every so often my inbox is filled with so many superb remixes and reworkings of tracks I love that the general rule of no remix posts just seems a little naive. So, here’s another collection of some of my favourites from recent weeks.

First up we’ve got Atticus‘ take on Gengahr‘s fantastic Bathed In Light, giving the laid-back track a dancefloor rework, with vocals there keeping the calm as the beat beneath drives track in a different direction. Gengahr have just booked some European dates with Walrus favourites Alt-J, so get yourself on top of those now.

Monogram‘s debut track Romance is one of my favourite songs of the year, so I approached the Prides remix with some trepidation, but they’ve done one hell of a job taking such a thing of beauty and slowing it down, focusing on a deep shuffling groove that builds to something thunderous towards the end.

Laura Doggett‘s Moonshine is a lovely pretty pop song in its own right, but with Gilligan Moss on remix duties it transforms into something very different with a skittish rhythm and funk bassline – before breaking into a perfect slice of bass-driven electro-pop. Damn.

And here are the originals for comparison:
