Some lovely, shimmery shoegaze to kick the week off in the right way. Warm are an NY-based five piece I stumbled across over the weekend, and hearteningly enough, they’d already done most of the work I would have had to do to describe their sound just through the single word they chose for their name.
To add a little more though: the smooth reverberating glissandos and huge walls of fuzz guitars that characterise the tracks on their self-titled EP (released at the end of last month) recall the early Smashing Pumpkins, whilst the juxtaposed male and female 90’s emo vocals tweak the dynamic slightly in an interesting way. The feel is absolutely spot on- pounding alt-rock perfectly contained within a dreampop bubble, never veering towards being either too raw or too over-glossed. The lyrics, similarly, sit very comfortably in the sweet spot between opaque and personal.
All in all, definitely my cup of (warm) tea, and definitely a band I’m going to be keep my eye on over the months to come.
