Cocos Lovers are absolutely amazing. I randomly met bass player Bill at the lovely Norwich Playhouse Bar last year, and he wrote down the name of his band for me. I fell in love with the band via their recordings, and seeing them live for first time inside the Small World tent at Secret Garden Party was a perfect introduction to their zesty live presence.
Just ahead of two appearances at this year’s Cambridge Folk Festival, Cocos Lovers played a lengthy set of beautiful world-infused folk to a full Secret Garden Party tent. I always say you can tell more about a band by watching their audience than watching them, and Cocos Lovers’ audience were an eclectic bunch, most of whom knew all the words to at least one Cocos tune. Impressive stuff.
Particular highlights during their wonderful set were ‘Time To Stand’ and ‘Moonlit Sky’, and I can honestly say there wasn’t one audience member whose focus wasn’t on this brilliantly twee band for their fantastic set. An impressive number of audience members were even singing along!
We might only be just over half way through 2010, but I feel secure in saying that Cocos Lovers are one of my favourite live bands of this year. Check them out, buy their album, SEE THEM LIVE!
