MP3: The Mariner’s Children – It Carved Your Name Into The Ground
The Mariner’s Children have been sizzling in the brain pan of any half-decent muso for the best part of the last year, and the band finally release their flawless debut EP ‘New Moore Island’ this autumn. Benefitting from a lineup that consists of the crème-de-la-crème of the UK’s modern folk scene, the sound of The Mariner’s Children is defined by intelligent musicianship, thought-provoking lyrics and roaring vocal harmonies from the exceptionally talented seven-piece. This collection of truly striking songs will attract the respect of the industry and capture the hearts of the nation. You will not hear a more genuinely interesting, naturally distinctive and utterly innovative release in 2010; ‘New Moore Island’ is simply exceptional. The Mariner’s Children are on their way to big things, and deservedly so.

What a lot of fawning bollocks. This band is pleasant enough but certainly not innovative.
And I can only assume Mel is a lobotomy victim.
I’m all for open debate on here, but do you fancy being a bit more specific about your complaints John? I feel Lauren and I will disagree wildly with you on this…
I’d definitely like to hear your full opinion on this John. Perhaps you could suggest why you don’t feel this band are innovative, and suggest some other bands in the genre you feel are. I’d be very interested to know your thoughts.
Incidentally, have you actually heard the entire EP – which hasn’t been released yet, so kudos to you if you’ve managed to get hold of a copy – or seen the band live? If you’re judging it based on the one track, or even the three tracks on the band’s MySpace (only one of which appears on the EP I am reviewing here), it might do you well to educate yourself a little better before calling anybody a “lobotomy victim”.
Dear John Towers,
Your comment was just brought to my attention. You seem like such a lovely bloke that I thought I would give you a response, since you quite obviously posted that looking for a bit of attention.
I have really good news for you, mate. If you don’t find a band to be innovative enough for your tastes, there are quite literally millions of other bands out there to listen to. What I may love, you may hate. And believe it or not, there’s not actually anything wrong with that. Musical taste is quite subjective. Objectively speaking though, they are a talented group of musicians who work damn hard to make music that they love, and that we love. If you don’t, that’s perfectly fine. If you would like a band to cater exclusively to your tastes, please feel free to start one. I’m sure that Lauren would be more than happy to review it, and unlike you, she would exhibit respect and tact rather than being condescending and insulting.
With kindest regards,
Mel x
P.S. Cheers for your concern over the current state of my brain, but rest assured, all receptors and connections still intact. It’s awfully kind of you to care.
