It has taken a while, but the curated digital newspaper project that I have been building for the last few months is now LIVE at Descrier.co.uk and bringing together some of the best articles and content from across the independent web covering everything from violence against women in Pakistan, to the discovering of the Higgs boson “God particle”, to the best new films and documentaries, and of course the best new music.
Why The Name?
Descrier maybe a rarely used word these days, but it is a noun meaning “one that discovers, observes, proclaims” which describes exactly what we are trying to do. We are scouring the independent web – the blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and everything in between to find enlightening articles that you simply will not find in traditional media. Our sources are those actively involved in the situations, discoveries, and events around the world from activists on the ground, to scientists in the lab, to bloggers, to politicians – and The Descrier is a place where their thoughts, beliefs, knowledge, and experience are published directly to our readers.
What About The Music Section?
The music section is made up of content from some of our favourite UK music bloggers including: A New Band A Day, Dots & Dashes, Drunken Werewolf, Faded Glamour, Not Many Experts, Song, by Toad, The Mad Mackerel, The Recommender,The VPME, and yes us here at The Blue Walrus with more coming soon.
Have We Missed A Source?
We are constantly on the lookout for new quality sources, so if you think we’re missing someone – a blog, a twitterer, a Facebook user, or yourself – then get in touch.
Will Anything Change At The Blue Walrus?
No. We’ll still be bringing you some choice tunes and new bands on a daily basis. We’ve been sent videos and songs (below) made about walruses playing saxophones as well as the odd hand knitted stuffed animal – we love what we’re doing right here.
