Much like Emmy The Great, Mumford & Sons stayed marginally under the mainstream radar during the upsurge of ‘indie-slash-folk’ that appeared last year, but I cannot even begin to describe how incredible this band is. Picture Noah & The Whale meets Johnny Flynn, and if that doesn’t appeal to you, just listen with respect for frontman Marcus Mumford for being the latest notch on Laura Marling’s bedpost (no disrespect intended, I think it’s all rather nice, actually). Check out their Myspace Page for more info and have a listen to the track below and let us know what you think!
Ha ha. Beat me to it. It’s still going on my next folk compilation though.
Haha! My apologies. Great minds, Tim, great minds :).
is that a washboard leaning on a nord? thats so f-ing cool.
I think it is. An underused instrument if ever I’ve seen one.
I heard about these at the start of the year… bored me more than anything,. Am I missing something? Love folk but… mumford aren’t for me, I don’t think. Any particular tracks that will change me?
Hey Matthew,
Check out ‘Roll Away Your Stone’ – it’s the one that really got me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlYrOBvt9IQ.
I think they’re brilliant, but then again it comes down to personal preference.
Check out my interview and the track by Jack Savoretti if you’re a folk fan, and sorry you didn’t like these guys, but we’ve got some great new indie/folk artists coming up, so keep your eyes peeled!
Lauren
Hey, don’t really know anything about your blog. Found it via Hypem and this Mumford and Sons song. Thought you’d might want to listen to this song. Many similarities.
