Pigeon-holing bands is getting harder and bands like Milk are not making that job any easier. I’ve seen them described as post rock and noise rock but I’m not sure that covers it it all or even exactly what they are at this stage.
What I do know is that Milk construct abstract walls of sound into crescendos, but what sets them apart is the voice of Claire Robbin that transcends and glows above the noise. Somehow the noise doesnt distract, but instead assaults your senses and opens you up to the vocal melodies. Opener “Brighton Beach” pulsates along with an electronic heart before self-destructing into exuberance whilst the duet on “The Dead Sea Blues” is an enchanting call to arms.
