Drinking The World From A Glass from Ben Maney and Countless Sheep is a complete mishmash of styles and influences from folk to blues to rock, which does make it a somewhat confusing listen – but when Ben just sings his sparse style of folk-pop it makes it all worthwhile. The vocals are deep, alluring and warm like staring into a crackling fire but their energy is hidden behind some traditional folk guitar. I would neglectful to not mention that I hoped the album had a more focused feel to it, but until they find their “sound” – there’s is nothing wrong with cherrypicking a few gems from this one…
The whole sound is wonderfully unpretentious and unaffected by the social mores of the hyped world that we live in. Then it all coming in those best of DIY styles of home printed CD and hand written note will only add to to that effect. I would just like to hear a more focused album that makes use of such talent for the quieter side throughout
