Danger Mouse and film-score composer extraordinaire Daniele Luppi are releasing Rome on 16th May bringing together the original musicians from films such as The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West. Yes most of these musicians are now in their seventies and well retired, but the talent involved in people such as Alessandro Alessandroni’s ‘I Cantori Moderni’ choir is undeniable.
The whole album was recorded straight to tape with vintage equipment in Rome’s cavernous Forum Studios, and each song has offers that calm and cool sound of the 1970s Italy. Soft, soulful, and flirtatious, it’s the album to soundtrack a sunset by the pool with the beautiful people.
You’re going to have to wait until the album drops to hear my personal favourite on there The Rose With A Broken Neck, but to tide you over we’ve got a couple of videos directed by the influential Chris Milk, Two Against One featuring Jack White and Black featuring Norah Jones.
