I heard this Scotch trio’s new single, Anti Climb Paint, quite a few months ago but I decided to keep it to myself in a bid to ensure that they remained untainted from mainstream approval. However, as I’m so selfless and generally an all round swell gal, I thought I’d write a wee piece on them because Found are something unique, accomplished and highly entertaining. It’s a bit of a whirlwind to take in to begin with.
They’re like the more sophisticated, cooler, artier and generally better version of Hot Chip. So basically nothing like Hot Chip then. They combine brilliant electro with extremely Scottish and earnest vocals whilst still managing to sound like a solid guitar band. Their sound is an amalgamation of all the sour things in life; things that are just a bit too much to handle alone but when combined produce a surprisingly pleasant and compelling sound.
Anti Climb Paint is a belter of a song; yearning and heartfelt lyrics plus reverberating guitars and a nice use of synth and electronics, which concentrate the mood and depth of the sound. Kev Sim, Found’s resident synth and electronics operator and also man behind new electro project River of Slime, plays around with a few different versions of Anti Climb Paint on the band’s website which are each as good as the original- a difficult challenge to pull off.
The album, FactoryCraft, was released back in March and has got to be one of my favourite of 2011 to date. It’s a clever album, not just due to intellectual references throughout, but due to the sound of every track, especially I’ll Wake With A Seismic Head No More and Blendbetter, seeping with skill and talent from each band member. Found are another band that are allowing listeners into their fragile state of mind and greatest vulnerabilities-it definitely pays off when mixed with clean cut guitars and a subtle yet intense electronic vibe.

I still like Hot Chip. Just thought I’d mention that…
Good find though!
