Bear Cavalry (twitter/bandcamp) hail from the English south coast town of Gosport, not known for its musical heritage, but this youthful foursome (they’re all only 19 or 20) have produced some tracks with as diverse sounds that some have referred to as almost mathrock or afrobeat.
Their debut EP, Maple Trails (which I managed to missplace when I moved house last year – boo!), stylistically swerves all over the place, but always keeps its pulse on the dancefloor. A chirpy, sunny disposition with a little jazz-fusion complexity sprinkled around to keep the listener on her toes. Add in a horn section as on Custom Hands and you have an indie gem.
I really like this kind of music! Super!
