For some reason, the old Cast of Cheers Bandcamp page has been deleted. If you’ve heard of the Dublin band before, you’ve probably heard that they gave Chariot away for free in 2010 – go get it here if you have yet to discover it. You may also have heard that it was a phenomenal debut album. The quartet’s second album is due out later this year, and as someone who’s heard about seven or eight of the new songs live, I can say for sure that it stands a good chance of trumping its predecessor. After all, if an album’s lead single is as flat-out brilliant as Family, you know the band in question plan to take things up a couple of notches. It takes the highly-refined robot rock of their debut (they have the honour of being arguably the tightest band I’ve ever seen on a stage) and throws in some well-worn pop sensibilities. Technical guitar work mixes with a watertight rhythm section and some insanely catchy vocals, meaning that the result is something that is impressively replayable. We dare you to try and just listen to it once. You will fail.
Family is out now, backed with Loose Talk at a Party – buy the 7″ here; it’s also available on iTunes if you’re into that sort of thing.
