Willy Moon (facebook/twitter) seamlessly mixes upbeat hip-hop grooves with jazzy beats and a charming pop sensibility that will keep everyone on their toes. Through the bouncing and anthemic sing-a-long qualities of latest single ‘Yeah Yeah’ and the classic almost Elvis-like ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’, Willy inspires the listener to move in time and feel fine, during his short, punchy and totally summer-ready numbers.
As a performer, despite his squeaky clean look and fancy moves, there is a real sense of drive, determination and substance on offer here; much like with Patrick Wolf before him, Willy uses his own great musicianship and clever imagery to hark back to the glory days of credible pop (mostly with his vocal style and fancy footwork), while also being able to remain wholly current by incorporating massive beats and sky-rocketing synth lines. It’s very difficult then, to feel alienating as a fan of rock, rap, indie or electronic music when listening to this stuff; that can only be a very good thing.
Yeah Yeah is out on April 23rd on the ever wonderful Luv Luv Luv Records
