Yes, that is Wildeflower with an extra ‘e’. If it’s the kind of moniker that makes you think of beautiful landscapes and dazzling sunsets, then the band have already done their job, because their debut single is the auditory equivalent of such scenes. Good Girl is released through Stella Mortos on May 14th, backed with a song that is (appropriately enough) entitled Amazing Discovery – y’know, because this band are one. The aforementioned label has previously released some Entrepreneurs and FOE singles, but their newest signing is an entirely different proposition altogether: opening with the sound of birdsong, the song soon settles into a gentle waltz-time rhythm, before opening out into an expansive and layered folk-rock song that features some dazzling three-part harmonies. At times, Good Girl is seriously reminiscent of something off Grizzly Bear’s rather wonderful Veckatimest – but Wildeflower shouldn’t feel pressured by such comparisons; even if most new bands could do without them, this particular one has already displayed surprising potential. They’re in for a bright future; as debut singles go, this is a triumph.
