Jake Bugg [Website/Twitter/Facebook] is having an extremely productive year. He’s released one single already (the fantastic Trouble Town), lit up UK radio with support from Zane Lowe, Huw Stephens and Fearne Cotton, has a debut album on the way (mark Monday October 22nd down on your calendar if you have even a passing interest in Bugg’s fortunes), and to cap it all, he’s recently turned 18. What better time, then, to release some new material? Above is the video for his second single, the aptly-titled Lightning Bolt, which is released on June 4th. It’s an up-tempo song. featuring impressive hooks, a tongue-twisting lyric and a palpable sense of confidence – would that we were all so sure of ourselves at his age. It is also lit up by an electrifying, plugged-in guitar solo towards its end. While its predecessor was the sound of a young troubadour finding his feet, Lightning Bolt indicates that his songcraft has come on in leaps and bounds in a matter of months. Things are certainly looking up for him – there’s no doubt that he’ll rise to prominence quite soon if he has more songs like this in his arsenal.
