Blending the intensity of Joy Divison and the fun-party-punk sounds of Siouxie And The Banshees are London-based all-girl band Savages – their intelligent lyrics and cutting guitar lines make the material utterly enthralling to listen and dance about to. What’s even more exciting about this emerging act is the buzz around them that has secured a string of quite wonderful support slots, most recently with UK indie scene darlings, The Vaccines.
Standout track City’s Full creates the type of mood and atmosphere that My Bloody Valentine might be proud of – unrelenting drum beats push and pull here against accessible guitars and the haunting vocal stylings of Jehnny Beth (yes, we spelled that first name correctly…), and a bucklet-load of awesome attitude. Put most simply and accessibly dear readers, this is modern dark indie music without any sort of pretension and a definite sense of determination with a powerful drive.
Savages – Flying to Berlin / Husbands will be released by Pop Noire digitally on 28 May with a physical 7″ following in June.
