Back in February, Edinburgh’s Capitals [Website/Facebook] caught our attention with their debut AA-side single, and are set to release some more new material next week. Second single All These Years takes what’s gone before and builds on it, placing focus on rhythm and atmosphere this time around, but the duo’s melody writing skills have come on in leaps and bounds too, judging by its powerful, muscular chorus, which, may we add, isn’t even the high point of the song. Things truly go stratospheric during the song’s uplifting bridge section, showing a new side to the band that we would definitely like to hear more of. B-side Ode to an End strips things away, with emphasis on an acoustic guitar and an affecting melody. It proves that even when Capitals are stripped back to their rawest form, they can still deliver the goods. They don’t have to rely on anything, because their new material has opened up a host of other avenues for them to explore. They’re taking their live show Stateside at the end of the month; chances are American audiences will fall for them as hard as we have.
