As the saying goes, a change is as good as a rest. The last time I encountered this lot, they were still trading under their old name, The Slowdown (and not their older name, Big Sleep, which, perhaps, didn’t go down too well with these guys), and had just released a song called SEX. Well, that was one way to get our attention, but now they’re back, restyled as The 1975 [Twitter/Facebook], and they’ve delivered an absolute humdinger of a song as the first taste of their forthcoming ‘debut’ EP, which is out on August 6th and is called Facedown. The title track is a blissful, ethereal three minutes that floats along on a xylophone melody that is wonderfully delicate yet jaw-droppingly powerful. It showcases a new side to the band that may not have been apparent before. It’s a breathtaking piece of music that one can easily lose themselves in. Whatever guise they come in, The 1975 are hot property, and it looks like the third time will indeed be the charm. The video for the title track is below, and if you want to hear more, then get on the Soundcloud stream of The City – then proceed to get excited.
