Firstly, happy Independence Day to all our American readers. We at The Blue Walrus are also calling today Independents Day; we’re using this post to shine the spotlight on an up-and-coming label called Once Upon A Time Records. They’ve released plenty of stuff we approve of this year already, like China Rats and Coastal Cities. Their latest venture is particularly interesting, though: they’re releasing a series of singles from bands worthy of interest, and calling it their Singles Club. First up is the debut single from the High Wycombe-based As Elephants Are [Facebook/Soundcloud], an indie-pop song whose ambitions are epic and whose scope is grand. Sure to appeal to fans of Bombay Bicycle Club and The Maccabees’s more recent output, War Cry is the sound of a band who may only have been together a year or so, but know exactly what they’re doing; its pin-sharp focus helps this explosive song to deliver its full impact. It’s being released ‘properly’ on August 6th, but, as well as being lucky enough to premiere the song, we’ve been given a free download of it to share with you as well. Just click on the Soundcloud widget below, and take note of both this band and label. We’ll bring you the other songs in the series as they come up, too.
Brilliant song!
Awesome song you boys have a bright future
