Have you ever wanted to be lulled into a false sense of security only for it to be taken away within 3 blissful seconds? To be sitting on a sweaty bus somewhere in Middle England to be greeted with the sound of a band that makes you think you’re in for a quiet ride but almost instantly fuels your ancient teen angst and gives you immediate tinnitus? Meet PAWS (facebook/twitter). They’ll do the job for you just fine.
Shut Up and Drink Battery Acid is 4 minutes of beautiful noise, no lyrics required. PAWS’ tagline should go something like this: “There’s no need for words when you can use a distortion pedal like we can.” Quite right they would be too.
Next we have Jellyfish – fast, fun and wildly energetic. It’s punk where it needs to be punk; it has hooks galore and sounds like a faster, more angry, less American version of any Yuck song. All plusses in my book. Lekker follows much the same format but this format never gets boring. Bloodline is 100% garage and 100% danceable.
Basically, I’m falling in love with this Glaswegian trio’s furiously energetic, upbeat sound and I think most other people will be too.
