There I was at Open Assembly waiting for Arthur Beatrice to take the stage on Tuesday and on came these two Mancunians as one of the warm up acts. I had not done my homework and given them much of a listen beforehand, but knew they had a bit of a following up north and had played some Now Wave shows – which is always a good sign.

All this basically means that I was not prepared in any way for the sheer delight that coursed through my veins as G R E A T W A V E S hit their dreamy shoegaze stride. The show coincided with the release of their debut single The Shore / Into The Blue, but the performance was breathtaking – both spilling with joyous confidence and with each sound and beat crafted with such delicacy that they entranced the whole crowd.
