In a perfect world, this band would already be a big deal, but the new song from Dublin’s Kodaline [Twitter/Facebook] would seem to suggest that they’d be perfectly OK with such a thing. It’s difficult for a song to sound intimate and expansive simultaneously, but the quartet have pulled it off in an almost effortless fashion with their new song, Perfect World. Taken from their debut, self-titled EP, which arrives on September 9th via RCA Victor, it follows Lose Your Mind, which was unveiled last month, and is markedly different from that song. This time around, the group decide to go for something a little more low-key, using an infectious acoustic guitar line to great effect. Whereas many bands of this ilk would pile on the theatrics for a song as anthemic as this, the band’s sense of restraint helps Perfect World to have even more impact. Far from being full of sound and fury yet signifying nothing, the song’s delicate atmosphere allows it to soar – in a way, much like the band themselves, who have now definitely achieved lift-off.
