There have been some amazing albums released this year, with Django Django finally releasing their creative and joyful self-titled debut, Cold Specks tugging at my heartstrings with A Graceful Expulsion, and Clock Opera cutting and splicing their way to quite the masterpiece with Ways To Forget, and Meursault stripping away their electronic sounds for Something for the Weekend.
For me, however, my album of the year is Alt-J’s An Awesome Wave. It’s inventive, holding your attention through the twists and swirls of soothing indie sounds to thundering basslines. It is in parts haunting, and in others carefully constructed lullabies, but most of all – it was everything I hoped it would be when I first hear their demos back in 2011, and my expectations were huge.
