I have always wondered why list season starts at the beginning of December if not earlier these days. Is it because people are too busy getting drunk with the start of Christmas festivities? Is it to give the readers a few options to think about when buying presents for their loved ones? Whatever the reason, it misses out on a full twelfth of the year, and being as I only came across Pretty Heart late in December thanks to a post by Josh on Crack in the Road, I would have missed Pretty Heart.
Pretty Heart, also known as Morgan Holliger from Perrysburg, Ohio, has been making music for a good while with two EPs to her name, but without somehow finding the audience that she deserves. Rumour has it, in fact, that she was considering throwing in the towel after releasing Toy, but thankfully the recent outpouring of love for that particular song on the interweb has put an end to that idea.
The sultry Toy defines the sound she has been perfecting, with its heady concoction of haunting vocals and a lonely industrial feel to the beats that lay beneath. And from having her back catalogue on repeat for the best part of two weeks there sounds to a deep trove of wonders that she is on track to musically explore.
